1. When picking out the size of
round copper table tops for dining rooms each person should be given 26 inches of elbow room if seating six people or less. Give 24 inches if seating more than six people.
2. When picking out the size of a
square or rectangular copper table top for a dining room, each person will need roughly 24 inches of elbow room.
3. For selecting
copper table surface height, keep in mind what the table will be used for. Dining room copper tables are typically 28 to 31 inches high as are copper card tables.
Coffee tables are usually 15 to 17 inches high. The height of end tables are anywhere from 18 to 24 inches.
4. Remember that the thickness of the top must be taken into consideration when thinking about the total height of the table you want. Our
copper table tops are 1.5 inches thick. Subtract the table top thickness from the height of your desired table and make sure the base you use is the appropriate size.
5. Some tables are heavy. If you will be moving the table around frequently, ask about the weight of the table you are about to purchase. We know almost exactly what each of our copper table tops weighs. If you are considering purchasing a large table top please note that it might be put together upside down and then flipped over, requiring the help of several people. A
60 inch round is more than five times the weight of a
30 inch round.
6. Measure at least twice. The easiest way to know what size of table you want is to replace an old one with a new one of the same size. In that case you might even be able to reuse the base under your current table. If you want a table to be a custom size or shape, you are in luck. We make
custom copper table tops and tables at custom heights. Trying to fit a counter or table between two walls is very tricky. We have had incorrect measurements of 1/8 of an inch and the table was not able to fit into the space.
7. If you want a large table top, consider that objects such as salt and pepper shakers or platters are likely to be outside reaching distance. For large table tops a
Lazy Susan is often considered an elegant solution.
8. Using a tape measure expanded to the width, height, and depth of the table you might want, visualize the table that you want to have occupy the space. For example, if you are wanting a larger dining room table, have a family member work with you on figuring out the correct size and shape of table top.
9. Pedestal bases can make a table unwieldy, weaker, or less stable than having three or four legs underneath the top. For smaller tables, pedestal bases are more practical.
10. Most importantly, consider what this table will be used for. The right size needs to fulfill the usefulness.
